Ionia girls varsity soccer would take on Ithaca in the final game of tournament play on Friday night. The game would go back and forth through the entirety of the time. Ithaca would score first on a penalty kick halfway through the first half. 9 minutes later, Ionia would earn a penalty kick of their own and Tessa Masengale would bury it in the back of the net to tie the score. The lead wouldn't last long as Ithaca would be awarded another free kick just outside the box only a minute later and would score their second goal. Ionia would again fight back, as Kelila Rustin would score a long ball goal from 20 yards out with only 30 seconds remaining in the half.

The second half would have no shortage of excitement from either team. Ionia would score on the opening kickoff, just 38 seconds into the half. Tessa Masengale would take the ball all the way down the sideline and play a beautiful ball into the center. Kelila Rustin would control the ball and pick up the assist by playing it back to Alexa Barna for the early half goal. Ithaca would score two goals in the next 10 minutes to retake the lead. Minutes later, Kelila Rustin would make yet another fantastic play by dribbling to the corner and sending the ball into the middle. Addy Roundtree would be on the receiving end of the cross to put the ball in the goal, tying up the score. The game would end in a 4-4 tie, sending us to a penalty kick shootout.

The shootout would end in the favor of Ithaca, resulting in a 4-5 defeated for Ionia. Alexa Barna scored her penalty kick in overtime to give her two goals on the night. Kelila Rustin tallied 1 goal and 2 assists, while Tessa Masengale and Addy Roundtree would have a goal each. 

Ionia's record falls to 2-6-2. We will take on Charlotte on Tuesday April 30th at Charlotte with a 6:30 kick off
