Ionia Boys Varsity Tennis Regional results

The season ended on Wednesday for the Ionia boys varsity tennis team.  The results were not what the bulldogs had hoped for but the team played good tennis on the last day of the season.  The lone point the bulldogs earned came at second doubles where Riley Yokom and Jaxon Palmer won their first match vs. Owosso 6-4,6-3 before losing to top seeded Dewitt 6-0,6-1.  First singles Owen Shippey lost a heartbreaking match to Owosso 7-6, 6-3 after leading 5-2 in the first set.  Second singles Christian Miller lost to fourth seed Mason 6-0,6-0.  Third singles Cole Petersen lost to second seed Haslett 6-2,6-1.  Harper Duell also lost a heartbreaking match at fourth singles to the fourth seed from Mason 6-4,7-5. In doubles first doubles Jude Gregory and Ryan Lee lost to the number two seed DeWitt 6-3,6-1.  Third doubles Riley McClintock and Mason Clark also lost a heartbreaker after winning the first set 6-2, losing the next two 6-4 and 6-0.  Fourth doubles Nolan Lundstrom and Jake Whitney lost a well played match to the second seed Haslett 6-3,6-2. It was a great year for the bulldogs, finishing 7-6 with two tournament championships.  The bulldogs are already excited about next year with eleven of twelve varsity players returning.

The Ionia boys varsity tennis team lost a tough match to St. Johns Monday night by a score of 5-3.  It was Ionia's last dual match of the season before the regional meet on Wednesday.  Ionia honored senior Owen Shippey tonight before the match, the only senior on the team.  Shippey had a tremendous career for Ionia and was a tremendous representative of the Tennis program. Shippey also lost a tough match tonight at first singles 6-4,6-0.  Christian Miller won an easy match at two singles 6-2,6-4.  Third singles Cole Petersen lost a very tough match 6-4,7-5 while fourth singles Harper Duell won in a blowout 6-0,6-0. The first doubles team of Jude Gregory and Ryan Lee lost 6-1,6-2.  Second doubles Jaxon Palmer and Riley Yokom lost 6-2,6-3.  Third doubles Mason Clark and Riley McClintock lost 6-4,6-1.  And the fourth doubles team of Nolan Lundstrom and Jake Whitney won easily 6-1,6-2.  The season for the bulldogs is almost over and it has been a great year for Ionia.

The Ionia boys varsity tennis team took second in the league meet on Wednesday.  Because Ionia lost to both Lansing Catholic and Portland during the regular season, it means that Ionia and Portland finish the season tied for second in the league overall.  Cole Petersen was a league champion for Ionia winning his flight at third singles.  Cole was the two seed and defeated Portland in the semis 6-0,6-1 and then defeated Lansing Catholic in the championship, who he had lost to on Monday, 6-2,6-0.  The fourth doubles team of Nolan Lundstrom and Jake Whitney lost an incredibly close match in the championship.  The bulldogs defeated Eaton Rapids in the semis 6-4,6-1 before losing the championship to Lansing Catholic 6-3,4-6, 10-8.  Christian Miller took second for the bulldogs at second singles defeating Lansing Catholic in the semis 6-3, 3-6,10-7 then losing 6-4,6-0 to Portland in the championship.  Fourth singles Harper Duell also took second defeating Lakewood in the semis 6-1,6-1 then falling in a tough championship match to Lansing Catholic 6-4,6-4.  Second doubles Riley Yokom and Jaxon Palmer also finished second beating Lansing Catholic 6-4,6-7, 10-8 in the semis before losing to Portland 6-2,6-1 in the championship. Owen Shippey took third at first singles beating Eaton Rapids in the first round 6-4,6-2, losing to Lansing Catholic in the semis 6-1,6-0 and winning third place by beating Lakewood 2-6,6-4,10-8.  First doubles Jude Gregory and Ryan Lee also took third, beating Lakewood 6-2,6-2 in the first round, losing to Portland 6-2,6-2 and then beating Eaton Rapids 5-7,6-4,11-9.  Third doubles Mason Clark and Riley McClintock took fourth beating Lakewood 6-1,6-0 in the first round, losing 6-1,6-0 to Lansing Catholic in the semis and then losing 6-2,6-0 to Portland.   The bulldogs have a last home match on Monday against St. Johns which will also be senior night before they head to Mason next Wednesday for the Regional tournament.

The Bulldogs lost a tough league match to Lansing Catholic on Monday by a score of 6-2.  The bulldogs played great tennis but fell short in a couple of key matches.  First singles Owen Shippey lost 6-0,6-1.  Second singles Christian Miller played what might have been his best match of the year winning 6-2,2-6, 6-1.  Third singles Cole Petersen lost a tough three set match 2-6,6-4,1-6.  Fourth singles Harper Duell lost 6-2,6-1. The first doubles team of Jude Gregory and Ryan Lee also lost a tough three set match 6-2,3-6,3-6.  Second doubles Jake Whitney and Jaxon Palmer won a great three set match 6-4, 1-6, 6-4.Third doubles Riley McClintock lost 6-2,6-2 and fourth doubles Nolan Lundstrom and Myles Perrien lost 6-0,6-1.   The bulldogs will compete in the league tournament this week and have a home match on Monday vs. St. Johns before finishing the season at regionals next Wednesday in Mason.

The Ionia boys varsity tennis team dominated the Grand Rapids Union invitational winning six of eight flights and taking second in the other two.  Owen Shippey took second at first singles winning his first two matches 8-5 and 8-7 before falling in the final  1-8.  Second singles Christian Miller dominated his flight winning 8-2,8-1 and 8-0.  Third singles Cole Petersen also dominated his flight winning 8-3,8-0 and 8-0.  Fourth singles Harper Duell easily won his only match of the day 8-0.   In doubles the first doubles team of Jude Gregory and Ryan Lee took second winning their first match 8-5, losing the second match 1-8 and bouncing back in the third to win 8-3.  Second doubles Riley Yokom and Jaxon Palmer won both their matches to take the gold 8-6 and 8-3.  Third doubles also won the gold winning their two matches 8-2, 8-0.  And fourth doubles won their only match to win gold 8-0.   The bulldogs will be back home on Monday for their next dual match versus St. Johns.

The Ionia  boys tennis team lost a tough match to Portland Wednesday by a score of 3-5.  First singles Owen Shippey lost 6-1,6-0.  Second singles Christian Miller lost a tough 3 set match 6-4, 6-7, 2-6.  3rd singles Cole Petersen won in a great comeback 1-6,7-5,6-1.  And Harper Duell won by forfeit at 4th singles.  First doubles Jude Gregory and Ryan Lee lost 6-1,6-4.  Second doubles Riley Yokom and Jaxon Palmer lost 6-1,6-0.  Third doubles Riley McClintock and Mason Clark lost 6-1,6-1.  And fourth doubles Jake Whitney and Nolan Lundstrom also won a tough 3 set match 6-3,2-6,6-4.  The bulldogs suffered their first league loss and are now 3-1 in the league.  Ionia will try and bounce back on Saturday at the Grand Rapids Union invitational.

The Ionia boys varsity tennis team defeated both league opponent Charlotte and non league opponent Ovid-Elsie on Wednesday.  The bulldogs defeated Charlotte 8-0.  1st singles Owen Shippey won 6-0,6-0.  2nd singles Christian Miller won 6-0,6-0.  3rd singles Cole Petersen won 6-0,6-0 and 4th singles Harper Duell won 6-0,6-0.  1st doubles Jude Gregory and Ryan Lee completed the winning for the bulldogs winning 6-0,6-0 also.  2nd doubles Jaxon Palmer and Riley Yokom, 3rd doubles Mason Clark and Riley McClintock and 4th doubles Jake Whitney and Nolan Lundstrom all won by default.  The bulldogs are now 3-0 in the league. Against Ovid Elsie the bulldogs won a tough 5-3 match.  1st singles Owen Shippey lost 6-3,6-4.  2nd singles Christian Miller won 6-0,6-0.  3rd singles Cole Petersen won in a great comeback 7-5, 6-2.  4th singles Harper Duell won 6-0,6-1.  1st doubles Jude Gregory and Ryan Lee lost a tough match 6-4,1-6,6-10.  Riley Yokom and Jaxon Palmer lost 6-0,6-0. 3rd doubles Mason Clark and Riley McClintock won 6-2,6-0 and 4th doubles Jake Whitney and Nolan Lundstrom won 6-0,6-0.  The Bulldogs are now 6-3 on the year including a tournament 1st place finish in Lakewood.  Ionia will play again next Wednesday at Portland.

The Ionia boys varisty tennis team won the Lakewood invitational on Saturday.  Ionia dominated the field winning six of eight flights.  First singles Owen Shippey played well and finished 1-2.  Shippey defeated Battle Creek Pennfield 3-6, 6-4 and 14-12, but losing close matches to Hillsdale 3-6, 6-4, 12-14 and to Lakewood 6-2,6-4.  Second singles Christian Miller dominated his flight winning 6-1,6-1 vs. Hillsdale, 6-3,6-0 vs. Lakewood and 6-2,6-3 vs. Pennfield.  Third Singles Cole Petersen also had a great day winning all three matches.  Cole defeated Hillsdale 6-2,6-0, Lakewood 6-3, 6-0 and Pennfield 6-1,6-1.  Fourth singles Harper Duell finished off the success for the singles Winning against Hillsdale 6-0,6-1, beating Lakewood 6-0,6-1 and beating Pennfield by forfeit.   First doubles Jude Gregory and Ryan Lee finished second by defeating Pennfield 7-5, 4-6 and 10-5, Lakewood 6-3,4-6, 10-2, and falling to Hillsdale 6-2,6-2.  Second doubles Jaxon Palmer and Riley Yokom won their flight defeating Pennfield 4-6, 6-3, 11-9, Lakewood 6-1, 4-6, 10-7, and Hillsdale 6-2, 6-1.  Third doubles Mason Clark and Riley McClintock won all three beating Pennfield 6-4,6-1, Lakewood 6-1,6-0 and Hillsdale 6-1, 6-3.  Fourth doubles Nolan Lundstrom and Jake Whitney also won all three defeating Pennfield 6-0,6-0, Hillsdale 6-1,6-0 and gaining a forfeit agains Lakewood.   It was a great day for the Bulldogs who will be back in action on Monday at Owosso.

The Ionia boys varsity tennis team won another league match on Wednesday defeating Eaton Rapids by a score of 7-1.  First singles Cole Petersen had an impressive comeback win, losing the first set 6-4 before coming back 6-4,6-3.  Second singles Owen Shippey dominated his opponent winning 6-0,6-0.  Third singles Christian Miller also dominated, winning his match 6-1,6-0.  Fourth singles Harper Duell kept up the singles success with a convincing 6-0,6-0 win. First doubles Jude Gregory and Ryan Lee won a key match 6-3,7-6.  Second doubles Jaxon Palmer and Riley Yokom won a tough three set match losing the first set 7-5, then coming back to win 7-5,6-3.  Third doubles Riley McClintock and Mason Clark lost a tough match 6-4,6-2.  Fourth doubles Myles Perrien and Nolan Lundstrom also pulled out a key match losing the first set 7-6 before winning the next two 6-4,6-2. The Bulldogs are now 2-0 in the league and will spend Thursday and Friday preparing for this weekends Lakewood invitational.

The Ionia boys varsity tennis team won their league opener Wednesday night against new league member Lakewood 7-1.  Winning for Ionia were second singles Owen Shippey 5-7, 6-2,6-4.  Third singles Christian Miller won by default and fourth singles Harper Duell won 6-1,7-5.  The First doubles team of Jude Gregory and Ryan Lee won 6-0,6-3.  Second doubles Riley Yokom and Jaxon Palmer won 6-2,6-1.  Third doubles Riley McClintock and Mason Clark won 6-1,6-0 and fourth doubles Nolan Lundstrom and Myles Perrien won by default also.  First singles Cole Petersen lost a tough match 6-3,6-1.  Ionia starts off 1-0 in the league and is off until next Wednesday with another league match as Eaton Rapids comes to Ionia.

The Ionia bulldog boys tennis team entered the record books Monday as the first team to win a match on the new tennis courts.  Ionia defeated Lansing Waverly 7-1 with the doubles teams all winning by forfeit.  First singles Cole Petersen lost a tough match 6-3,6-0.  Owen Shippey won at second singles 6-3,6-2.  Third singles Christian Miller won 6-0,6-1 and fourth singles Harper Duell won 6-0,6-1.  Forfeit scores are all considered wins by a score of 6-0,6-0.  Winning for the bulldogs were first doubles Jude Gregory and Ryan Lee, second doubles Riley Yokom and Jaxon Palmer, third doubles Riley McClintock and Mason Clark, fourth doubles Myles Perrien and Nolan Lundstrom.  The Bulldogs are on the road on Wednesday taking on rival Lakewood.

The Ionia boys tennis team lost to Greenville on Wednesday by a score of 7-1.  The match play was shortened to pro-sets due to the extreme heat.  1st singles Cole Petersen lost 8-0.  2nd singles Owen Shippey lost 8-1.  3rd singles Christian Miller lost 8-4 and 4th singles Harper Duell lost 8-6.  At doubles, 1st doubles Jude Gregory and Ryan Lee lost 8-2.  2nd doubles Jaxon Palmer and Riley Yokom lost 8-1.  3rd doubles Riley McClintock and Mason Clark won a great match 8-4, and 4th doubles Myles Perrien and Nolan Lundstrom lost a tough match 8-6.  The bulldogs will be home again on Monday against Lansing Waverly.

The Ionia boys varsity tennis team defeated Hastings Monday night by a score of 7-1 to get their first win of the year.  Winning for Ionia were 1st singles Cole Petersen by a score of 6-3,6-3.  2nd singles Owen Shippey won by a score of 6-4,6-0.  2nd doubles Jaxon Palmer and Riley Yokom won 6-3,6-2.  Winning by default were 3rd singles Christian Miller, 4th singles Harper Duell, 3rd doubles Riley McClintock and Mason Clark and 4th doubles Nolan Lundstrom and Myles Perrien.  1st doubles Jude Gregory and Ryan Lee list a tough match 2-6,3-6.  The bulldogs are back home on Wednesday taking on Greenville.

The Ionia boys tennis team lost a tough match to Grand Ledge on Thursday by a score of 2-6.  The two victories were the first two wins on the new tennis courts for the Bulldogs. Harper Duell won an incredible match.  After losing the first set 6-4, Harper dominated the second set 6-1 and then won the third set tiebreak 10-6.  The third doubles team of Mason Clark and Riley McClintock also won a tough match, winning the first set 7-6 (7-5) and then won 6-4 in the second set to win the match.  Cole Petersen lost at first singles 6-1, 6-0.  Owen Shippey lost at second singles 6-0,6-2.  Third singles Christian Miller lost at third singles 6-3,6-3.  The first doubles team of Jude Gregory and Ryan Lee lost 6-0,6-0.  Second doubles Riley Yokom and Jaxon Palmer lost 6-2,6-3.  The fourth doubles team of Nolan Lundstrom and Myles Perrien lost a tough match 7-5 and 6-2.   The Bulldogs are back in action on Monday, August 21st at Hastings and then home against Greenville on August 23rd.

The boys varsity tennis team lost it's first match of the year to Fowlerville on Tuesday.  This was also the opening of the new courts for the Bulldogs.  Although Ionia lost 7-0, with one match being incomplete, the young Bulldogs played well and fought hard.  First singles Cole Petersen lost 6-3,6-2.  2nd singles Owen Shippey lost 6-1,6-2.  3rd singles Christian Miller lost 6-1,6-2 and 4th singles Harper Duell lost 6-1,6-2.  In doubles the first doubles team of Jude Gregory and Ryan Lee lost 6-3,6-2.  2nd doubles Jaxon Palmer and Riley Yokom lost 6-2,6-1.  3rd doubles Riley McClintock and Mason Clark lost 6-0,6-0 and the fourth doubles team of Nolan Lundstrom and Myles Perrien lost the first set in a tiebreak, 7-6, and were losing in the second set 4-0 befor play was stopped because of the rain.  The bulldogs are back on the courts Thursday for another home contest against Grand Ledge.
