Girls 8th Grade A Volleyball vs. Portland Middle School

The Ionia 8th Grade Volleyball teams took on the Portland Raiders tonight in their last match of the season. Amaya Frias started the Bulldogs off with five aces, four kills, and two solid blocks in the first set. Ava Bowen had four assists while Miah Wittenbach added one. Gena Rogers was hungry at the net and added three additional kills. Ionia took the first set 25-19. Keeping the same pace, Ava Bowen served up two aces and Frias added another four. Gena Rogers had four more kills and Dakota McConnon added another. Ava Benedict covered the back row well and did a nice job reading the other team's hitters. Ella Bouwhuis was aggressive on defense and did not let a ball drop! The Lady Dawgs defeated Portland 25-13. Ionia did not let up and played well overall as a team in the final set. Erin Steffen was aggressive and hustled on the court in both the front and back row. The 8th Grade A-team played well together this year and came a long way as a team! I am excited to see where this group will go in the future! The Bulldogs defeated Portland 15-8 in the end. The Ionia 8th Grade A-team was 7-3 this season. Thank you as always to the parents and family members/friends for your support of the team this year! Let's Go Bulldogs!

The Ionia 8th Grade Volleyball teams took on the Warriors from Waverly tonight at the high school gym. Ava Bowen hustled on the court tonight and had several nice assists. Amaya Frias put down five aces and two kills while Gena Rogers had three great kills! Rogers also had an ace and was aggressive in the front row. The Bulldogs defeated Waverly 25-16. Coming out in set two, Frias put down nine kills while Erin Steffen added two and Kenadie McCoy added one. Miah Wittenbach played hard and had a nice ace. Despite their efforts, the Bulldogs fell just shy of the win losing 24-26 in the second set. It all came down to the last 15 points. Ella Bouwhuis was aggressive on defense and Dakota McConnon did her best in the front row. Ava Benedict was chasing after each ball and giving it her best effort! Despite all of their hard work, the Bulldogs couldn't quite regroup and lost the final set 13-15.  The 8th Grade A-Team is 6-3 so far this season. The Ionia 8th Grade Volleyball Teams battled St. Johns at home tonight. Ionia was ready early on and Amaya Frias absolutely crushed it behind the service line putting down nine aces right away! Frias also dominated at the net laying down six kills. Ella Bouwhuis had two nice digs while Erin Steffen added another dig. The Bulldogs defeated St. Johns 25-12. Ava Bowen and Miah Wittenbach hustled on the court tonight and each had several great assists with Frias nailing another five kills in the second set. Gena Rogers was hungry at the net and added an additional two kills while Bowen added one and Wittenbach another two. Bouwhuis was aggressive on defense and had three more awesome digs. Ionia defeated St. Johns 25-19. Frias added another eight aces in the final set making her total service points on the night a whopping 25! Ionia dominated their opponents 15-9 in the last set of the night. The Ionia 8th Grade A team is 6-2 so far this season. Please join us Wednesday as we take on Waverly at our high school gym. The Ionia 8th Grade Volleyball teams took on the Greyhounds from Eaton Rapids tonight. The Bulldogs served well and played smart at the net. Amaya Frias had five kills in the first set and Ava Bowen had five assists while Miah Wittenbach added two. Bowen also had four aces. Dakota McConnon and Erin Steffen each had a great kill as well! Ionia took down the Greyhounds 25-17. Ready for set two, Gena Rogers came out swinging and put down two nice kills and an ace. Kenadie McCoy added two aces and serve received well tonight. Ava Benedict hustled in the back row and covered her blockers. The Bulldogs defeated Eaton Rapids 25-12. The third and final set showed off the Lady Dawgs’ determination and hustle. They displayed great sportsmanship and had positive energy! Ionia took the final set 15-8. The Ionia 8th Grade A team is 5-2 so far this season. Please join us Monday as we take on St. Johns at home. The Ionia 8th Grade Volleyball teams took on the Lakewood Vikings tonight at home. The Bulldogs started off a little slow in the first set and tried to overcome a large point deficit early on, but couldn't quite regroup. Ava Benedict had a kill as well as Gena Rogers with Ava Bowen adding an assist. The Vikings out hustled Ionia and the Dawgs lost the first set 10-25. Ionia was eager to get back out and play with more energy in the second set and it showed in their tough serves and aggressive play at the net. Amaya Frias had four aces while Miah Wittenbach added another. Wittenbach and Bowen each had several assists and Erin Steffen added a kill and a great dig. Dakota McConnon was ready to cover her other blockers. The Vikings were still battling and managed to overcome the Bulldogs a second time, deafeating Ionia 19-25. The final set was still anybody's game and the Lady Dawgs gave it their best. Kenadie McCoy served up an ace and Gena Rogers had another two great kills. Overall, the Vikings outplayed the Bulldogs tonight and took the final set 12-15. The Ionia A Team Bulldogs are 4-2 so far this season. The Ionia 8th Grade Volleyball teams faced the Portland Raiders tonight at home. Knowing this would be a battle, Ionia came out ready to defeat their rivals. Amaya Frias led the team in aces and kills in the first set putting up six points from her serves and three impressive kills. Ella Bouwhuis was hustling in the backrow and communicated well, not letting a single ball drop. The Bulldogs took the first set 25-13. Miah Wittenbach started the set off in a positive way by putting down three aces and hustling in the back row. Dakota McConnon was aggressive at the net and Erin Steffen had several great passes. Ava Benedict covered well from the middle back and was ready to receive the ball. Ionia took the second set 25-21. For the final set of the night, the Bulldogs had fun and played aggressively at the net with Gena Rogers slamming down three nice kills. Overall, the team played well together tonight and it showed with their final set win over the Raiders 15-11.  The Ionia 8th Grade A Team is 4-1 so far this season. The Ionia 8th Grade A team traveled to Olivet tonight to take on the Eagles. Miah Wittenbach and Ava Bowen each had several great assists and strong serves. Amaya Frias and Erin Steffen each had a kill and Frias also had a nice block. The Bulldogs took the first set 25-18. Coming out hungry again, the Ionia Lady Dawgs served tough and were aggressive at the net. Gena Rogers put down a nice kill and an ace. Ella Bouwhuis was hustling in the back row and didn’t let a ball drop. Ionia dominated and took the second set 25-11. Following suit for the third and final set of the night, the Bulldogs held their own behind the line and had great communication at the net. Ionia swept the Eagles ending the final set 15-10. The Ionia 8th Grade A Team took on the Charlotte Orioles tonight in their first home match of the season. Amaya Frias served the ball and had a whopping 10 aces in the first set with Miah Wittenbach adding another two. Frias also had three kills and Erin Steffen had one. The Bulldogs dominated the first set winning 25-4. Ava Bowen had several nice assists in the second set and Kenadie McCoy served tough adding three aces and an additional three service points to the board. Dakota McConnon had nice communication on the court and Ella Bouwhuis was ready and huslting on serve receive. Ionia defeated Charlotte in the second set 25-8. Gena Rogers was ready to play in the final set and put down two nice kills and two strong aces. Ava Benedict had nice coverage in the back row and overall the Lady Dawgs played together well as a team. Ionia took the final set 15-10.  The Ionia 8th Grade A Team is 2-1 on the season so far. The 8th Grade Volleyball teams traveled to Lansing Catholic tonight to take on the Cougars. The A Team Bulldogs came out and started a little slow but quickly gained some momentum with Gena Rogers putting down two kills, Erin Steffen adding another, and Amaya Frias putting up a block. Despite their aggressive play at the net, the Lady Dawgs could not pull off the first set victory and fell short losing 11-25. Ready for vengeance in set two, Ionia hustled on the court and communicated well. Miah Wittenbach had several nice assists, Ava Bowen had 5 great digs, Ella Bouwhuis added another 3 digs and Ava Benedict helped cover her front row well. Frias had a total of 7 kills on the night while Kenadie McCoy played aggressive at the net as well and covered her middle hitter. All in all the Bulldogs fought a hard battle but couldn’t quite snag the win in the end. The Cougars defeated Ionia 22-25. The Ionia 8th Grade A team is 1-1 thus far this season. Girls 8th Grade A Volleyball vs. Lakewood Middle School

The Ionia 8th Grade Volleyball Teams traveled to Lakewood tonight for their season opener. The A team started out a little slow in the first set with some missed serves and balls sent into the net. Ionia fell short to the Vikings 15-25. The Dawgs quickly regrouped and came together as a team to pull off a second set nail-biting victory over Lakewood taking the match 26-24. It all came down to the final set to 15. Knowing that they couldn't give up a large point deficit, the Bulldogs came out hungry with strong serves and aggressive play at the net. It came down to the wire, but in the end, the ladies pulled out another clutch victory defeating the Vikings 16-14. Amaya Frias served up 5 aces, put down 5 kills, and showed excellent leadership on the court. Miah Wittenbach and Ava Bowen each had 7 great assists and passed the ball well. Gena Rogers added another 2 kills to the team total and Erin Steffen added 2 aces.  Ionia A team is 1-0 so far this year. Join us on Monday as we travel to Lansing Catholic for another on the road battle. Let's go Bulldogs!
