Girls 7th Grade A Basketball vs. Waverly Middle School

Win: 37 - 13
The 7th grade girls traveled to Waverly Middle School on Monday returning home with a perfect 10-0 season as they recorded a 37-13 victory over the Warriors.  The girls used a great team effort all year to finish with their successful season.  Members of the team are Bella Barr, Ava Brown, Ryelee Daugherty, Gentry Flanner, Mallory Husman, Jovie Overkamp, Pyper Patterson, Alexa Petersen, Audrey Sprank, Selina Stalker and Lydia Struble.     In the final game Ionia led 18-9 in a very physical first half and the shut out the Warriors in the 3rd stanza to go up 28-9. They then finished off waverly 9-4 in the final quarter for the easy victory.  Pyper Patterson led the way with 15 points 5 rebounds and 3 assists.  Ryelee Daugherty added 10 points 3 rebounds and 4 steals. Selina Stalker netted 8 points (all from the charity stripe) grabbed a game high 10 rebounds and 2 steals. Bella Barr had 2 points and 2 assists. Alexa Petersen added 2 points and 2 rebounds.   Congratulations to a super group of girls on a perfect season.  YOU MADE THIS HAPPEN!!   Thank you to all the parents, grandparents and all other family members and also friends who encouraged and supported our Lady Dawgs this season. We truely appreciated it.

Win: 48 - 28
Ionia 7th grade girls recieved 16 points from Ryelee Daugherty and 14 from Pyper Patterson as they posted a 48-28 road victory over the Olivet Eagles.  The Eagles proved to be a tough opponent as the held an early 8-5 advantage before the Lady Dawgs scored the final four points of the quarter to go up 9-8.  Ionia increased their lead to eight 22-14 at the half thanks to three triples by Daugherty in the 2nd period.  The local girls then outscored Olivet 26-14 in the second half for their 20 point win.  Alexa Petersen scored 7 points plus 3 rebounds and 2 steals, Selina Stalker added 6 points 13 rebounds and 2 assists. Gentry Flanner and Lydia Struble netted 2 points each. Struble also grabbed 3 rebounds.  Audrey Sprank finished the scoring with a free throw.  Bella Barr contributed 4 rebounds 2 assists and 2 steals Daugherty had 4 rebounds 5 assists and 7 steals. and Patterson hauled down 5 rebounds plus 2 assists ans 3 steals.  It was a team effort with Jovie Overkamp , Mallory Husman and Ava Brown supplying aggressive defense.  Ionia now 9-0 will finish the season Monday when they travel to Waverly for a 4:30 contest.

Selina Stalker poured in a season high 21 points to help power the Ionia 7th grade girls to a convincing 49-37 win over the visiting Lansing Catholic Cougars Wednesday.  Stalker also nabbed 15 rebounds and handed out 6 assists as the Young Lady Dawgs notched their 8th victory without a defeat.   Also helping out in the scoring column were Pyper Patterson 10 points, Rylee Daugherty 8 points and 5 apiece for Bella Barr and Alexa Petersen.  Patterson and Petersen each grabbed 5 rebounds and Daugherty pulled down 4 caroms along with 5 assists and Barr dished out 3 helpers.   Ionia will play again next Wednesday when they travel to Olivet. Game time 4:30

Win: 44 - 14
The 7th grade Lady Dawgs scorched the nets for 25 first quarter points hitting 9-14 from the floor including 5-7 behind the arc as they rolled to an easy 44-14 win at Holt Middle School Monday. The victory improved the local girls record to 7-0.  Selina Stalker led Ionia with a game high 17 points 6 rebounds and 3 assists.  Pyper Patterson netted double digits with 14 points. She also chipped in with 4 rebounds 4 steals and 2 assists.  Ryelee Daugherty scored 6 points had 4 assists and 2 rebounds.  Bella Barr, Mallory Husman and Gentry Flanner added 2 points apiece.  Ava Brown hit a free throw.  Josie Overkamp led the team on the glass grabbing 7 boards. Alexa Petersen pulled down 6, Brown 5 and Barr 4 plus 3 steals.  Audrey Sprank played tough on defense to help in the win.  Ionia will stay home Wednesday when they host Lansing Catholic in a Valentines matchup at 4:30.

Ionia 7th grade girls made it 6 wins in a row with a lopsided 47-15 decision over the visiting Lakewood Vikings Wednesday.  Scoring for the Lady Dawgs were Ryelee Daugherty 17 points (including 7-7 from the charity stripe) Selina Stalker was close behind with 16 markers. Bella Barr and Pyper Patterson chipped in with 3 points each while Alexa Petersen, Jovie Overkamp, Mallory Husman and Lydia Struble netted 2 points apiece. Stalker again led the local girls on the boards with 8 rebounds. Overkamp grabbed 6 and Patterson 4.  Patterson dished out 3 assists Barr had 2 helpers and Ava Brown added a great pass for a basket.  The difference in the games wide scoring margin was a season high 26 steals. Picking the Vikings pockets were Daugherty 9, Barr 8 and Stalker with 6. Also contributing to a great team effort was Gentry Flanner with several defensive stops. The girls will travel to Holt Middle School on Monday. Game time 4:30
Girls 7th Grade comeback win vs Waverly

Ionia 7th grade girls outscored the Waverly Warriors 15-7 in the final quarter to pull out an exciting 33-30 comeback win Monday at the IMS gym. The victory improved their season record to 5-0.  After being blanked 9-0 in the opening stanza the Lady Dawgs fought back to close the gap to four 12-8 at the half. Waverly increased their advantage to five 23-18 at the end of three periods. Ten 4th quarter points from Ryelee Daugherty propelled Ionia to their first lead of the game late in the quarter. They then held off the Warriors for the hard fought win.        Daugherty paced the young dawgs with 16 points 8 rebounds 5 steals and 2 assists. Selina Stalker had a double double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. She also added 3 steals and 2 assists. Mallory Husmans aggressive play off the bench helped spark the Ionia comeback. She netted 4 points had 4 boards and 3 steals. Bella Barr also played big with 2 points 5 rebounds and 2 steals. Also adding to the Ionia cause were Alexa Petersen 5 boards 2 steals. Jovie Overcamp and Lydia Struble grabbed 4 caroms each each. while Ava Brown and Audrey Sprank pulled down 2 important rebounds apiece. Ionia will stay home for a Wednesday contest vs Lakewood at 4:30

The Ionia 7th grade Lady Dawgs improved their season record to 4-0 with a decisive 43-19 win over the Olivet Eagles at the Middle School gym Wednesday.  Racing to a 33-6 halftime lead Ionia then coasted to their 24 point win.  Selina Stalker led the way with 19 first half points, going 3-3 behind the arc. Alexa Petersen reached double digits with a 10 point effort. Ryelee Daugherty, Pyper Patterson and Lydia Struble netted 4 points each. Jovie Overkamp finished the scoring with 2 points.  Stalker grabbed a game high 9 rebounds. Patterson nabbed 4 boards while Petersen and Overkamp pulled down 3 caroms each.  Bella Barr led the passing game with 4 assists Daugherty dished out 3 and Patterson 2.  Daugherty also picked off 4 steals. The team will stay home on Monday to defend their perfect record with a tough contest against Waverly
7th grade girls vs Lansing Catholic

Win: 47 - 37
A great team effort with balanced scoring propelled the 7th grade girls to their third straight victory beating Lansing Catholic on the road 47-37. Ionia raced out to a 7-0 run to start the game before settling for a 11-7 advantage after one. The Lady Dawgs made it 24-19 at the half and increased the lead to nine points 35-26 at the end of period three. The Cougars made it a game by cutting the deficit to five 41-36. but 3-pointers by Ryelee Daugherty and Pyper Patterson sealed the win. Daugherty and Alexa Petersen led the balanced attack with 10 points each. Selina Stalker netted 9 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Bella Barr tallied 8 points to go with her 4 rebounds and 4 assists. Pyper Patterson added 7 points 7 boards and 2 assists. Lydia Struble rounded out the scoring with a three point play. Daugherty once again led the floor game with 4 rebounds, 7 assists and 3 steals. Ionia will stay home on Wednesday when they host the Olivet Eagles in the annual MS Purple Game at 4:30

Win: 41 - 22
The 7th grade girls rolled to a 41-22 home victory over the Holt Rams Wednesday.Jumping to a 23-4 halftime advantage, they increased it to a 26 point lead after 3 quarters 37-11. Pyper Patterson led all scorers with 20 pts and added 8 rebounds. Selina Stalker was huge off the boards grabbing 20 rebounds to go with her 9 pts. Alexa Petersen netted 7 pts. while Bella Barr and Ryelee Daugherty tallied 2 pts each. Jovie Overkamp rounded out the scoring with a free throw. Daugherty controlled the floor with 7 assists and 3 steals. Stalker also had 3 steals. The young Lady Dawgs will take their 2-0 record on a tough road contest at Lansing Catholic on Monday.
Girls 7th Grade Basketball Get Road Win Over Lakewood

The 7th grade girls opened their season with a decisive 49-12 road win against the Lakewood Vikings. The Lady Dawgs jumped to a 20-2 first quarter advantage and then increased it to 36-4 at the half. Ionia outscored Lakewood 13-8 to cruise to their 37 pt win. Pyper Patterson netted 18 pts to lead the scorers. Ryelee Daugherty added 15pts 2 assists and 4 steals. Selina Stalker also hit double digits with 10pts and added 5 rebounds 6 steals and 2 assists. Alexa Petersen, Jovie Overkamp and Ava Brown each scored 2 pts. As a team everyone contributed to the win with great hustle. Super game girls. Ionia will play again Wednesday at home against Holt at 4:30
