On Friday May 3rd, 2024 the Ionia Girls Varsity Track and Field team competed at the Shepherd Invitational. It was a long but pleasant meet with fair conditions, and light breezes. The Ionia Girls earned 9 PR’s and brought home a total of 3 Medals from the 17 Team “Pre-Regional” Style meet. As a team they finished 8th in the Large School division. The Bulldogs are next in Action on Tuesday May 7th at home against CAAC White opponent Lansing Catholic. This will be the final CAAC White Dual Meet of the season and will be followed by the Senior / Parent Night Recognitions. Field Events begin at 4:00PM with Running Events at 4:30PM.

The Ionia Girls Track and Field Team Competed against CAAC White Rival Portland On Wednesday May 1st, 2024 The nice weather and the competitiveness of the meet brought out the best in both teams. Ionia had 10 PR’s and Portland 21. Ionia lost the meet 80-57. This brings the Ionia CAAC White Dual Meet Record to 2-4. With the small number of athletes this year, the girls ran out of bodies to put into events. The coaches are very proud of the girls for their efforts and continued hard work. The Bulldogs are next in action on Friday May 3rd at the Shepherd Invitational and at home next Tuesday (May 7th) against Lansing Catholic with Field Events beginning at 4:00PM and Running Events no later than 5:00PM.

The Ionia Girls Track and Field team competed at the 2024 Central Montcalm Hornet Invitational on Friday April 26, 2024. The Bulldogs tallied 6 PR’s and earned 11 medals at the meet. As a team they finished 4th in the Green (big school division). Following is the Event scoring and final placements for the boys side of the meet:

Women’s CAAC White Quad Track and Field Results
The Ionia Track and Field Team competed at the CAAC White Quad Meet in Olivet on Tuesday April 23, 2024. The meet was scored as a Triple Dual with Ionia defeating Lansing Sexton and Lakewood, but falling short to a very good team from Olivet. The Ionia girls dual meet record now stands at 2 wins and 3 losses. The Bulldogs are next in action on Friday at the Central Montcalm Invitational with first events beginning at 2:00 PM.
The Meet in Olivet was truncated due to weather (Lightning). The girls portion of the meet ended after 14 of the 17 events were concluded. The coaches were in agreement that the overall team standings would not change if the meet were to resume. The Ionia Girls had 13 PR’s including a School Record (again) in the Pole Vault by Mimi Wegener with a jump of 10’-7”.

The Ionia Bulldogs hosted the 2024 Bulldog Relays on a sunny but windy Friday April 19th. Team Scoring for the Girls was as follows: Central Montcalm [97], East Lansing [91], Ionia [88], Chippewa Hills [78], Delton-Kellogg [63], and Grand Rapids Union [14].
Next week (4/22-4/26) the bulldogs are on the road with meets on Tuesday at Olivet with the CAAC White Quad (Olivet, Lansing Sexton, Lakewood, and Ionia) Field Events beginning at 4:00 PM and Running Events at 5:30. In action again on Friday at the Central Montcalm Hornet Track and Field Invitational with Field Events beginning at 2:00 PM and Running Events at 3:30 PM

2024 Eaton Rapids Results
The Ionia Girls Track and Field team Hosted Eaton Rapids in a CAAC White Conference Dual Meet on Tuesday April 16th. The girls are now 0-2 in Conference action, finishing behind Eaton Rapids by a score of 76-61. Throughout the meet the girls tallied 10 PR’s and won 7 of the 17 events. The Bulldogs will next be in action on Friday at Home, hosting the Bulldog Relays. Friday’s meet begins at 3:30PM with Field Events and the 4 X 1 Mile Cross Country style Relay. The Track Running Events begin at 4:30 PM.

2024 Lakewood Invitational at Maple Valley
The Ionia Girls Track and Field Team competed in the 2024 Lakewood Invitational held at Maple Valley High School in Nashville, Michigan. The meet was held at Maple Valley due to the condition of the Lakewood facilities. The weather was beautiful with sunny skies and temperatures hovering around 60 degrees.
The Ionia Girls finished 5th out of 12 participating schools. The girls recorded a total of 6 PR’s including a School Record tying jump in the Pole Vault by Mimi Wegener at a height of 10’-6”. The Invitational used the MITCA True Team Scoring where every athlete scored points for their team based on how many opponents they finished ahead of.

The IHS Girls Track and Field team traveled to Charlotte but came up short against CAAC White Opponent, Charlotte. The final score was 86 to 51 bringing their season record to 0-1. The Ionia girls did however record 37 PR’s over the course of the meet.
The Bulldogs are next in Action on Saturday at the Lakewood Invitational (which will be run at the Maple Valley Track in Nashville). The next CAAC White meet will be at home next Tuesday (4/16) at home against Eaton Rapids.
